HIGH INTENSITY DISCHARGE LAMPS "HID"

High Intensity Discharge Lamps

High Intensity Discharge (HID) lamps differ from incandescent lamps in the way in which they produce light.  They are very efficient because they generate extremely high luminous flux in a very small space.

Small - but powerful

For example, a 2,000 W metal halide lamp, such as the ones installed in football stadium floodlights, produces as much light as two 5,000 W incandescent lamps.  The area in which the light is produced is no larger than a 2 dollar coin.  Other advantages of modern high-intensity discharge lamps include low thermal output, excellent color rendering and long life.  What’s more, because of the compact dimensions of these lamps, their light can be easily and accurately directed.

Why High Intensity Discharge lamps?

Strong light and pinpoint accuracy

There are hardly any light sources that are more efficient than modern High Intensity Discharge lamps from Australian National Lighting.  This type of lamp offers high luminous efficacy, long life, excellent color rendering and low thermal output.  Discharge lamps produce extremely intense light from minimal dimensions.  Thanks to the compact design of these lamps their light can be directed almost as well as a point light source.

High Intensity Discharge lamps are used in the commercial sector and also in the high-end private sector.  These lamps are particularly popular for applications where energy efficiency and – because of difficult relamping situations – long life are required, as for example in factories and sports stadiums and for street and horticultural lighting.  Merchandise presentation is another important application.  With these lamps, goods in shop windows and retail outlets can be displayed in their true colors and brilliant light.  Lamps with different light colors, wattages and configurations are available to cover a wide range of lighting tasks.
